Binary Ballistic Ballet 1995
Along with the ballet piece 'Eidos Telos' by William Forsythe, the interactive choreography system "Binary Ballistic Ballet" was conceived in 1995. The ensemble of the Ballett Frankfurt had already been experimenting with an alphabetical dance-system which was then transformed into movement in 3dimensional space-time. For this production this alphabet of expression was translated into an abstract computer-based coding mechanism.
The choreography was generally up to 70% pre-determined. The remaining 30% would be influenced and inspired by the digital choreography engine, which meant that the dancers received the information from one of the many monitors on stage to embodied it. The digital system was directly saturated by the violinplayer on stage.
