FRANK / 1991

The Ensemble Modern were our neighbours at the Institute for New Media in Frankfurt, Germany. When they were recording in Zappa’s private studio in LA for their album “Yellow Shark”, I visited the sessions and filmed since I was on a US tour heading for SF. Since Frank was already seriously ill at the time, his whole family stayed close to him.

Working together at the theatre play ROMAN DOGS by Michael Simon & Heiner Goebbels in Frankfurt, I invited Catherine over to the institute to experiment with one of my first programs to control 3D shapes by live audio input.

Catherine Jauniaux is a Belgian avant-garde singer. She has been described as a “one-woman-orchestra”, a “human sampler”, and “one of the best kept secrets in the world of improvised music”.
